Where have I been?

Well I've been busy.....
I finally bought an iPod Decmber 2005. I decided on the Nano and because of the Christmas rush the only model available was the iPod Nano Black 2GB.

In a way this was a good thing as all the decisions were made for me. Do I wish I had the 4GB? Hell yeah but it has not been a real problem. Its forced me to keep up to date with listening to podcasts an not let them pile up.

I also bought a thingy that allows me to listen to the iPod through the car radio. A must have device.

I have not listened to radio or watched TV news since Dec 2005 and I feel better for it. In the car I listen to the wide varety of podcasts on my iPod. I cant get enough of them.

As I tell my firends, they think I'm a bit mad and cant get them to take the step to listen to podcasts. They are just not ready and I know when they finally do they will say to me "Why didnt you tell me about podcasts?" and i will just roll my eyes as I have been obsessive about telling people but their eyes just glaze over.

The term 'podcast' has been declared Word of the Year

What a great story!!! This shows that podcast have reached a tipping point and gone mainstream.

Also in the story it says 'lifehack' and rootkit didnt make it. I reckon 'lifehack' will be word of the year next year.

I love listening to podcasts! I cant get enough of them and I still dont own an iPod. I mainly listen through my computer but recentley I bought a cheap MP3 player 512MB ($98 AUD) that I use in the car.
My favourite podcasts are from TWIT and NerdTV Both are technology podcasts.

How many versions of the iPod can there be?

I want an iPod. Dont you? But which one?
Apple have just announced the iPod that plays video and last month the very slim Nano.
With all the choices my purchase juices are paralysed. I really only want it for listening to podcasts but now I can watch my favourite TV episodes like Lost and Desperate Houswives I might want that too.

I really think its too early for video. Need to wait until we see what other content will be available and a bigger screen and much longer battery life. Playing video requires huge amounts of battery and the new iPod that plays video only gets 2-3 hours of video playing. Its not enough for me.

What if they bring out a better one just after I buy one.......I'll keep watching for the perfect iPod for me...although maybe it is the Nano that is perfect for me.

Podcasting

The latest thing is podcasting....well it has been around for a while often called webcasting but since the term podcast has come about it has taken off, and since iTunes started cataloging podcasts. Now you can download easily to your MP3 player with great tools like iTunes......you dont need to own an iPod to listen its just an MP3 file. You can listen to it on your computer or any other MP3 player.

My favourite podcast is TWIT (This Week in Tech) with Leo Laporte and the gang. I never miss it.

Have you tried Skype yet?

If you would like to have free phone calls then you must check this out. Go to www.skype.com and download the little application and install on your computer. Send it to your fiends and you can have voice communication with them using your internet connection.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I love it . I can up to 4 people on a conference call and once you stop talking over each other its great. You can also use Skype to call normal phone numbers once you set up an account and deposit some money into it.

My Sony Clie

I love my Sony Clie PEG-NX70V. I have had it about 18 months and I use every day. It runs Palm OS5.0 but I dont use many of the Palm applications as I use ACT! for Palm that synchs with my ACT! 6 database (another passion of mine that I will talk about in future blogs) on my notebook.
My second favourite application on my Clie is the game Patience that I bought from www.kickoo.com. I play it all the time as there are so many variations within the game...I stick mainly with freecell.
I use the voice recorder when I'm driving around in the car..... I record things I need to remember, stuff off the radio, phone conversations etc so I dont have to take notes.
I use the camera to take pictures of things i see in shops or error messages on clients computer screens. Its an all in one device. I never use the keyboard as I find it difficult but always use the graffitti.
Yesterday I was at Fry's and saw the same model refurbished for US$190! That is cheap as I paid just under $1000! Maybe I should buy a backup one!
